Morning Musings of a Worn Out, Grinched Out, Partied Out Shop Girl . . .

Morning Musings of a Worn Out, Grinched Out, Partied Out Shop Girl . . .

Holiday Seasons always wear me out. The joy and anticipation of them arriving is more than game, set, matched by their not so warm and fuzzy departure.  That feeling is doubled if your chosen profession is retail . . . it’s a beast, a love hate relationship, but one I wouldn’t trade for anything. From picking out the perfect wrapping paper when the season starts to filling the dumpster with all the scraps of it when it’s over, it ain’t nothing like it. Pack it up, put it up, praise the Lord it’s over and look forward to the New Year.

Whether we’re ready or not, that New Year starts tomorrow promptly at 12:00 am. The ball will be dropping and I will be, well . . .  sleeping. The hubs and I have chosen to sit the Auld Lang Synes out for years now. Not because we’re unsociable; we’re just slap worn out. Couple that with the fact that the entire retail world goes on sale tomorrow and bright eyed bushy tailed is not synonymous with the kind of celebration we were known for in our youth. I’ll leave the partaking to you young ones . . . you be you and grab on with both hands. When you’re older like me, you’ll love spending New Years Eve snuggled up with your Valentine trying to outdo each other on remember whens.

As for retail’s biggest sale season that starts tomorrow, my advice - shop smart. It really doesn’t matter if that green and pink fur lined tuxedo jacket, that’s to die for, is on sale. If you ain’t gonna wear it, don’t buy it. I promise you’ll have closet remorse before the sun sets if you do and you know those rules about final sales so you’ll be delegating precious closet space to something that isn’t deserving. This is the time to buy the good stuff. Look for classics that’ll never go out of style and can be a wardrobe workhorse for years. A leather handbag on sale, yes! A leather poncho, probably not. It really is the time to rack up - quality over quantity - there are tremendous savings out there, just make sure when you invest your dollars you wake up the next morning content that everything you purchased was closet worthy.

So bring on 2020 . . . after a good night’s sleep, I’ll be ready! I just know it’s going to be a great year. I have hope and faith the Lord will guide us all down the path we need to be on and will help us though the pot holes along the way. The past eight years have been a fabulous journey for me and I have enjoyed every single second. You guys have made it the best second chapter ever written and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m the luckiest Shop Girl ever and I owe it all to you.

Alright, where’s my red pen? I’m outta here to start marking down.

xoxo
